The MV Princess of Stars Ferry after it was sank last June 22, 2008

June 22, 2008 - a very unfortunate day for those Filipino passengers of MV Princess of the Stars who ended their lives during the typhoon Fengshen also known as "Frank" as it ushered Philippines last June 21.

MV Princess of the Stars is a ferry owned by Filipino Shipping Company Sulpicio Lines that capsized off the coast of San Fernando, Romblon at the height of typhoon Frank.

Sulpicio Lines admitted that about 860 were on board as the ferry capsized, 751 were passengers and 111 were crew members when it was left the port on its way to Cebu City.

Capt. Florencio M. Marimon, Sr.,captain of the MV Princess sent a distress call when the ships's engine stalled in rough seas near Sibuyan Islands. San Fernando mayor Nanette Tansingco sent a speedboat and confirmed that the ferry had a hole in the hull, was partially submerged and that several bodies had been found nearby.

As of June 26, there are 57 lucky souls survived the sinking. According to the latest news, there are 87 more bodies found adrift at sea or washed ashore in the provinces of Camarines Norte, Quezon, and Masbate on Wednesday. While the Philippine Coast Guard and the Philippine Navy are continously finding more bodies and remains of the victims.

Sulpicio Lines said that the family of victims would be given compensation of 200,000.00 regardless of whether the bodies have been recovered or still missing and regardless of whether the bodies have been identified or not up to this time.

Until now, family of those victims who left behind mourn and grieve for what had happen to their love ones. Some are still hoping that even their relatives' remains will be found.

I gave my warmth condolense for those filipino family who left by their loved ones because of the worst maritime disasters in the country’s history. All we can do is to pray for those victims and gave our sympathy to their families.
